David hails originally from the east coast (New York/Connecticut) and Hannah originally from England, but we have both called Seattle, WA our home for the last 20-odd years. We met on a ski trip with mutual friends in late 2009, got married in the summer of 2013, and have already lived in 5 different houses together, now 6 if you count the year we will be spending aboard Highwind on our Great Loop adventure.
We spent many years rock climbing and car racing (mostly David for the latter) in the summers together before boating took over as the nice-weather-weekend activity. Combined with hiking, that pretty much covers the summers. In the winter, even though we met skiing and still do that when we can, we have transitioned to spending more time snowmobiling than waiting in lift lines. We are also not afraid of boating during the winter and have spent quite a bit of time aboard with the diesel heater on enjoying being in the relatively empty marinas and anchorages of the off-season.
We also enjoy traveling, whether it’s close to home (hiking/wine tasting in Leavenworth) or further away (long weekends in Cabo and New York City are favorites.) One of favorite vacations was a month-long globetrot starting with rafting down the Grand Canyon and included visiting Ireland, London, and Tuscany. Spending the next year living and working aboard Highwind is our next big adventure.
